Niger, officially the Republic of the Niger, is a landlocked West African nation with over 80% of its land covered by the Sahara Desert. The capital is Niamey, and the country is named after the Niger River. Bordered by seven countries: Libya and Algeria to the north, Chad to the east, Nigeria and Benin to the south, and Burkina Faso and Mali to the west. Hausa is the official language.
